Summary of La Piedad En El Desierto

In its original form, this work was created on the interior wall of Palacio de Lecumberri, a Mexican prison. At the San Carlos Academy of Art, where Rodriguez Lozano was Headmaster, he was accused of stealing some engravings (by Guido Reni and Albrecht Dürer) from the collection.

He was freed after a few months and a not guilty verdict. It was there that he began to get white.

That’s why it’s so important in his entire body of work. This is one of his two murals, and you can see it in person at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, where it was relocated.
