Hyenas is a multiplayer shooter from the studio behind Alien: Isolation

Sega and Creative Assembly have revealed Hyenas, a new multiplayer shooter coming from the studio best known for its grand strategy titles, but also the sublime horror game Alien: Isolation. Hyenas is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC in 2023, but you can sign up for a closed alpha test now.

Here’s the pitch. It’s the far future and the billionaires have swanned off to Mars, leaving a literally broken planet Earth behind them, thanks to the zero-G tech that helped them get there. But we still have something they want: Merch and pop culture tat.

As lumbering spaceships head out to take all our actually worthless junk to Mars, you can board the ships, overcome the hired thugs, alarm systems and armed drones guarding the Merch, grab it and get the hell back out. That’s made all the trickier by zero-G zones and switchable environments to spice up the action.

It’s a PvPvE kind of multiplayer game with five teams of three vying for plunder within the Plundership sandboxes.

Creative Assembly are aiming to release the game in 2023, but want to get it into players’ hands as soon as possible. Sign-ups are now open for the closed alpha test on PC.

“We believe the key to modern shooter success is understanding what players want to see and where they want to take their experience. We know we’ve got something interesting on our hands, but we also know the odds are stacked against us,” said Executive Producer, David Nicholson. “To take on the biggest games in the industry, we need to hear what players think, right up front and early. If you’re in, we want to take you along for the ride. That’s why after today’s announcement, we’re also launching into the first of our public Alpha tests.”

Oh, and they promise that Hyenas won’t have pay-to-win mechanics, but will include Panini sticker albums, a SEGA Mega Drive and PEZ dispensers.
